Veterans Day Parade

Each year, Thomas Hopkins Post 4 of The American Legion takes a leading role in organizing and coordinating the Veterans Day Parade in Wichita, Kansas. This cherished community tradition honors the service and sacrifice of U.S. military veterans from all branches.

Planning & Coordination

Post 4 begins preparations months in advance, working closely with:

  • City officials and law enforcement
  • Local schools, military units, and veteran organizations
  • Parade participants including ROTC groups, marching bands, classic car clubs, and civic groups

They ensure all logistics — from traffic control and staging areas to safety measures and accessibility — are managed with precision.

Parade Highlights

  • Opening ceremony with a flag-raising, invocation, and remarks by local dignitaries and military leaders
  • A procession of floats, military vehicles, veterans groups, JROTC units, color guards, bands, and community organizations
  • Special recognition of Gold Star families, WWII and Vietnam veterans, and active-duty personnel
  • Flyovers or ceremonial salutes (when possible)

Community Engagement

Thomas Hopkins Post 4 actively encourages community participation through:

  • Volunteer opportunities
  • School essay contests and art projects focused on patriotism and military service
  • Booths, family-friendly activities, and informational displays at the end of the parade route

Honoring Service and Sacrifice

The event provides a platform for the community to express gratitude and for veterans to share stories, connect with peers, and receive the recognition they deserve. It reflects Post 4’s deep commitment to patriotism, remembrance, and service.
